Deck the Halls without Climbing the Walls
Feeling more and more like Scrooge as the holidays approach, your list gets longer and there’s still only 24 hours in any given day? Well, don’t despair. Instead, reach into your back pocket and pull out your secret weapon – your Project Management expertise. It can help you transform chaos into calm. Here are some tips to make the holiday season full of joy instead of stress.

1.  Prioritize what’s most important. If shipping presents to out-of-state relatives is more important than mailing hundreds of cards, let technology lighten your load. Send an e-card to family and friends, and schedule pick up of those presents using UPS or FedEx online.

2.  Build new traditions. Find a different way to share the joy of giving. Whether it’s volunteering at a homeless shelter during the holiday season, making donations to Toys for Tots or helping to brighten the season for someone less fortunate by purchasing a gift, there are plenty of opportunities to start new traditions that will bring you and your family joy.

3.  Reflect on the best of the best. Best practices are not just for business anymore. Think about one of your best holidays ever. What made it so great? Did you travel to an exotic location? Was it relaxing in front of the fireplace with friends, families and good stories? Whatever it was, capture what made it special and bring those elements back each year.

4.  Respect all cultures and traditions. However you celebrate the holidays, remember that your neighbors and colleagues may celebrate the season very differently. Be respectful of others, and your understanding of cultural differences will enrich your own experiences.
