Keep Project Passion Alive
As weeks on a project move into months, it’s hard for a team to stay excited and enthusiastic. Here are some ways you can head off project fatigue and keep members focused.

Hold an art appreciation class.
Not by admiring Monet or Degas but by looking at your project. After months on the same project, it’s easy to forget what the big picture looks like. So repaint it for your team. Remind everyone why you began this in the first place, and show them how it all connects back to the team. Add some new excitement to the project by building in incentives like vacation days or a gift card.

Travel to the future.
Help your team visualize what the end of the project will look like. How does the success feel? What did you accomplish? How do you know when you’re there? When the whole team has become mired in the middle, it’s difficult to see the happily-ever-after. Inspire them to visualize it.

Laugh about it.
Don’t ignore the fact that your project has hit the doldrums. Instead, turn the groans into laughter by recognizing the truth. “I know those are tears of frustration running down your cheeks right now, so what can we do to make them tears of joy instead?” Humor can help lighten the load for everyone.
