Do You
Remember How?
As much as kids long to be adults, adults often
wish they could be kids again – even just for a day.
But when was the last time you really kicked back
and had as much fun as a kid? Do you remember how to
do it? Here are some of the things you enjoyed as a
kid that might bring back great memories, and a
smile.
-
Before your
driver’s license, you biked or walked wherever you
needed to go. Chances are you explored a path or
two that wasn’t part of your original plan or
followed a rabbit or butterfly – at least with
your eyes. So grab a bike or a comfortable pair of
shoes and give it another try. You may be
surprised at what you find.
-
Wipe the
cobwebs off the badminton set or grab the Frisbee
on the shelf right next to it, and head out to the
backyard. Before you finish setting up the net or
get your practice throws in with the Frisbee,
chances are someone will have joined you. Don’t
worry about winning – just have fun knocking the
birdie across the net, and give it the old college
try to catch the Frisbee. Laughing out loud at
everyone’s antics – including your own – may be
the most fun.
-
Grab your suit and
some sun block and head for a pool or the beach.
Don’t forget the beach ball, pail and shovel, and
diving rings. You’re not heading there just to
catch some rays; your mission is to build a
castle, play Marco Polo or try to gather the
diving rings faster than the “other kids.” Go
ahead, it really is fun.
-
Pack a picnic
lunch and grab a fishing pole and blanket. Head to
a local pond, lake or river, spread out the
blanket and enjoy the meal. If you’re motivated
enough to leave the blanket after lunch, you can
always see what the fishing is like. But don’t
feel obligated to try.
Maybe you remember some other favorite things you
used to do as a kid. If so, go for it. If you need
some encouragement, read this month’s
Know How Network article and this issue’s
Have Fun Again article. Then think of
what you can do to re-experience having as much fun
as a kid.
