Extreme Theme at PMI New Zealand National Conference
The theme of this year’s PMI New Zealand conference was extreme – and even the logo, which celebrates the fourteenth anniversary of the conference, conveyed the message. Through its Asia-Pacific licensee, Cheetah Learning participated as a vendor at this year’s conference. Keeping with the theme, there were amazing presentations on pushing the boundaries of traditional program and
project management thinking. Doug De Carlo and Jim Highsmith kicked things off with some challenges for Extreme Project Management and agile/adaptive practices. Dr. Askar Kuddady continued the “Extreme” theme with his presentation on using Project Management techniques in the separation of conjoined twins. The talk by Carolyn Wincer, head of astronaut sales for Virgin Galactic, was out of this world – literally. She explored the inception of commercial space flight and the challenges of going where few have gone before. Virgin Galactic sees the reality of commercial space tourism moving ever closer – having already sold 270 seats. Needless to say, traditional Project Management doesn’t do justice to such frontier projects.
