With 29 years of
IT experience – but no formal Project Management training or knowledge
of PMI’s methodologies under his belt – Mike Sutton was a bit skeptical
about being able to earn his PMP certification in just one
week when he walked into the Cheetah Exam Prep® for the PMP
course on Oct. 16.
“At the end of day one, I firmly believed there was no way I would ever pass the exam,” Mike confessed. But co-instructor Vikram Bala had asked students just that morning to engage in “the willing suspension of disbelief.”
Mike’s work experience at IBM, AOL, Netscape, and with his own consulting company for the past 13 years provided him with a wealth of Project Management experience. But when he began managing the Enterprise Content Management System for the Environmental Protection Agency, Mike found that his work experience alone didn’t cut it. He had to have the PMP certification.
“Colleagues who had taken Cheetah’s Exam Prep for the PMP thought it was the best vehicle available and recommended it to me,” Mike explained. “But when I walked into class that first day, the only formal Project Management training I had was the 35 hours of online Cheetah prep work that I had to do to meet the prerequisites for the PMI® exam.”
By the end of day two, Mike thought he had more disbelief than he could suspend. “Kelly (Baumer) and Vikram never gave up on me,” he said. “They offered constant encouragement and moral support to me each day.”
From a willing suspension of disbelief on the first day of the accelerated exam prep course to sitting for the PMP exam on the fifth day, Mike learned just how fast – and successfully – a Cheetah can learn. On Oct. 20, the day he passed the exam, Mike couldn’t wait to share his success story with Cheetah. “I can’t say enough good things about Kelly, Vikram, and Cheetah. I’ve seen a lot of education organizations come and go throughout my career, but none hold a candle to Cheetah!”
Mike’s pleased with the success he experienced with the Cheetah Exam Prep for the PMP and encourages other potential PMPs to take the course. “My advice is to do everything Cheetah tells you to do, regardless of how silly it may sound,” he insisted. “If they tell you to stand on your head and spit nickels, start kicking out Jeffersons! None of their approaches work for everyone, but at least one of them will work for you – so try them all!”
