  • Cheetah Project Manager – The Magic (and Curse) of Two Weeks

Michelle LaBrosse, PMP, CAC, PMI-ACP, CCPM, RYT

Couldha, Shouldha, Wouldha – much can happen in two weeks. Cheetah Agile Projects helps you make the most of your life, two weeks at a time.

Much can happen in two weeks. Think back two weeks ago. Did you know you would be where you are doing what you are doing right now? For many of us, that answer is a solid NO.

Two weeks ago, I was embarking on a goal to blog more, working in our Phoenix location, swimming every day – thinking this was my life for at least another month until leaving for a planned trip to a family reunion back east for Labor Day.

Then we got a monster size order for the Alaska Spice Shop – a business that had been on hold because the cruise ships to Alaska had been cancelled for two seasons due to covid. We had a skeleton crew for a while blending and packing spices, but they had found other jobs for the summer. The maintenance folks still on site at the commercial kitchen did inventory and we had enough for 7/8th of the order but we needed to blend more inventory. The only person qualified (besides me) was on a rafting trip. Since, it would be fun to get back into the Spice Shop, and would only take me a day to blend the needed product, another couple days to shore up the inventory, I figured I could take a short trip to Alaska to handle this and quickly head back to my work in Phoenix.

I did not anticipate catching a bug on my way here – I rarely get ill. Because I got my Covid shots in January, I’m past the six month mark needing a booster. My symptoms might be a mild case of Covid – who knows. But now, I’m in quarantine waiting for the results of the Covid test – a five to seven day wait. (The health clinic here requires the longer more accurate test if you have even mild “symptoms” and you’ve been traveling outside the state.)

This was a wake up call – I won’t be traveling back east for the family reunion. The local health center says they aren’t authorized yet for the boosters – at least until September. With the new highly contagious delta variant, it’s just too risky. Since I caught this bug traveling here, I’m also wondering if it’s even safe for me to travel back to Phoenix without the booster shot?  I guess I have a week to contemplate this.

In hindsight, there were several ways I could have handled this challenge without leaving Phoenix. I’m in the “coulda, shoulda, woulda” stage of this change to my plans. Hopefully I quickly find my way to “everything always works out for the best.”

Two weeks ago I had no idea I’d be back in Alaska tending to Spice Shop responsibilities or changing travel plans because of Covid. With the vaccinations, it had felt like Covid was in our rear view mirror. I’d much rather have used the past two weeks doing a Cheetah Agile Project.
